HOPPECKE is a German manufacturer of industrial batteries and energy storage systems. Founded in 1927, the company is the largest family-owned manufacturer of industrial batteries in Europe. Its headquarters are located in Brilon-Hoppecke, Germany, and its products are used in more than 100 countries worldwide.

The company develops complete energy storage solutions, ranging from individual battery cells and battery systems to integrated energy storage solutions, charging infrastructure, intelligent monitoring, and engineering services. Through its own research and development centers, HOPPECKE offers all major industrial battery technologies, including lead-acid, nickel-cadmium (FNC®), and lithium-ion batteries.

Today, the HOPPECKE Group operates with:

History

The history of HOPPECKE began on September 27, 1927, when German entrepreneur Carl Zoellner founded the company with the vision of creating sustainable manufacturing and new employment opportunities in the region. From the very beginning, the company focused on developing highly reliable battery solutions for industrial applications.

Over the following decades, HOPPECKE established itself as one of Europe’s technology leaders in industrial energy storage. Some of the company’s key milestones include:

  • 1927 – Company founded.
  • 1960 – Commissioning of the first in-house lead processing facility.
  • 1967 – Introduction of innovative batteries with polypropylene containers.
  • 1977 – Beginning of international expansion through the establishment of subsidiaries abroad.
  • 2000 – Development of the company’s first energy storage systems for renewable energy applications.
  • 2011 – Delivery of the first lithium-ion systems for industrial logistics.
  • 2019 – Expansion of lithium-ion technologies through dedicated business divisions.
  • 2024 – Awarded the EcoVadis Platinum Medal for sustainability.

Today, HOPPECKE remains a family-owned company managed by the Zoellner family and continues to invest heavily in research and development, sustainable manufacturing, and innovative energy storage technologies.
